Demons Of Ruby Mae Give Sneak Peek Into New LP With Single ‘Someday’

Written by Rahoul Naik

Born in Leicester and matured in Manchester, Demons of Ruby Mae are an eclectic two-piece who’ve garnered an impressive reputation thanks to a string of well-received releases and emotive live shows that have set the duo apart from their contemporaries since their inception in 2013.

Four years on, multi-instrumentalists Jonny Gavin and Adam Rowley have retained that same sense of sonic exploration, while honing it down to the finely tuned and utterly irresistible brand of alt-rock they deal in today.

Having already been compared to the likes of The xx and The National, the duo craft richly nuanced and beautifully haunting soundscapes on which Gavin’s vocals glide effortlessly.

Never has this been more apparent than on the band’s latest single Someday, a subtle, loping affair that builds steadily towards its majestic crescendo. Expansive and anthemic, it’s the sort of track we’ve come to expect from the two-piece; their inarguable musicality more evident than ever before. And though huge in its delivery, the track’s grandeur never feels on-the-nose and is instead balanced perfectly against the subtle spaciousness that runs through the track.

The first single to be taken from their forthcoming album, Someday feels not just an optimistic affair, but also somewhat prophetic, as it marks the beginnings of a stage in their career that many thought Demons of Ruby Mae would never reach.

In hindsight, reaching this stage seems inevitable, with the band garnering support from tastemakers such as Q Magazine and The 405, while previous singles have been aired on BBC 6 Music, Radio 2 and Kerrang! as well as being featured on hit US drama Suits; all of which have served to grow Demons of Ruby Mae’s ever-burgeoning fan base, allowing them to reach that all important first album milestone.

Listen to the track below and keep your eyes peeled for the band’s upcoming LP.
