Pussy Riot Recruit Chloë Sevigny To Star In Video For New Release ‘Police State’

Written by Jack Andrew Cribb

The prominent Russian art collective Pussy Riot have shared the video for their new track Police State. The video has been released in line with the events remembering the 1917 Russian Revolution.

Police State, which is one of the most melodic and upbeat Pussy Riot tracks to date, reminiscent of Icona Pop’s I Love It, stars American actress, director, and fashion designer Chloë Sevigny as a riot police officer who is more than happy to use her baton, set amongst colourful-balaclave wearing children who are forced to watch videos of Trump and Putin shaking hands. Scary stuff.

Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova said in a statement referencing the 1917 Revolution posted on Facebook, that “Soviet dissidents were fighting against one of the most oppressive governments on the planet and shared their own D.I.Y. magazines (samizdat) via secret networks. Labor union leaders and civil rights activists were dying for their beliefs in the U.S. And it actually did make our world a better place.” This all comes with Pussy Riot’s criticism of right-wing autocratic leaders who are “spreading around the world like a sexually transmitted disease.”

“If we find a way how to act together, be articulate, focused and persuasive, we can shift mountains.”

Police State is a single from Pussy Riot’s upcoming Nice Life Winter Playlist ’18, which is set to come out through Nice Life on December 8th. You can check out the video for Police State below.
