Gorillaz team up with North London rapper, Little Simz, for new high-tempo single, Garage Palace.
Currently touring our fine globe with many of the featured artists on their most recent album, Gorillaz have returned to our playlists and radio with new music. The track was one of 14 unreleased songs which appears on the upcoming deluxe vinyl version of Gorillaz’s fifth studio album Humanz.
The star-studded album features multiple collaborations with artists of all genres from the reggae’s man of the moment Popcaan to the gospel legend Mavis Staples and Gorillaz co-founder had nothing but praise for the 23 year old rap artist describing the song as “really exciting” and he isn’t wrong.
What makes Gorillaz so desirable to work with is the fact that the guest star has all the musical freedom in the world to express themselves and Little Simz does just that. The track opens up with a distorted Simz sort of chanting “Rain falls from the heavens to my palace rooftop / When the light shines through it I feel more exposed”.
Following this intro verse the beat drops and we are thrown into a high speed chase with the tempo of the song quickly rising. It opens up into a trance and synth driven beat on which the high-speed machine gun flow of the young star is layered over the top. Both the beat and Simz’s agile flow are so simple that it allows the brilliance of the song to truly radiate out.
That’s enough from us, listen to the single below and let us know what you think
