Everybody’s favourite rapper to hate, Kanye West, has shown us why he will always be a legend in music.
The Life of Pablo has made history within the British music industry as the first album to reach a gold certification – more than 100,000 copies sold – purely through streaming. This is even more impressive when given the context that Pablo, just released 18 months ago, has never been sold physically.
West’s seventh studio album was originally released exclusively on Jay-Z led streaming platform TIDAL for around 2 months before it became available on competitors like Apple Music and Spotify.
The Life of Pablo originally broke a streaming record of its own back in the USA, by peaking at number 1 on the Billboard Top 100 where more than 70% of its sales were through streaming. Although the album didn’t reach the top spot of the UK Album Charts, like its predecessors Graduation and Yeezus, it charted in the Top 30 and remained in the Top 100 for 47 weeks.
There hasn’t been much news about any new music from West or a possible follow up to The Life of Pablo, but what we do know is that Kanye is definitely working hard.
In June this year, three unreleased tracks featuring Young Thug, Migos and A$AP Rocky got leaked across the web, just as reports of Kanye heading to the Wyoming Mountains to write and record new music flourished.
