Banks hasn’t even finished touring for her 2016 album The Altar and she is already back with a stunning new track.
Underdog is the second single the songstress released this year following the sweet and delicate Crowded Places. Unlike the latter, however, Underdog is an upbeat, beautifully hypnotizing track that combines Banks signature vocal delivery to touches of electronica in the beat and in the melody, reminiscent of the chorus of Gemini Feed.
Banks is definitely not playing by any standards as her style is never conforming to the standards of mainstream pop, and thank god, because she might be one of the few respectable artists of a generation full of talentless brats. I challenge any super polished pop singer to have the courage to be violent and edgy as they yell “RAH” at the end of the verses of a song. I bet no one would be able to deliver Underdog like Banks, and it’s a damn good thing, in an industry where anything can be reproduced, she is unique. And her synths are as sharp as ever. Hopefully this song is the first taste of another iconic album.
