On Monday night, Chance The Rapper went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and was supposed to perform Grown Ass Kid. But instead, he graced us with a fresher than fresh track featuring none other than fellow independent artist Daniel Caesar.
The song had been written two days prior to the show and had no title up until yesterday. In a tweet, Chance explained “The song I did with @DanielCaesar has a title now. It’s called #FirstWorldProblems”.
In an interview prior to the performance, the Chicago native stated: “I was supposed to do “Grown Ass Kid” tonight and I called you up and said I couldn’t do that anymore for reasons I don’t want to go into. We had to come up with a song in a matter of days and I wanted to do something fresh. Not to lie, I’ve been in the studio a lot lately, cooking up some yammers. They’re honestly great. I premiered “Angels,” the first song off Coloring Book here. So why not do a new song for you tonight.”
#FirstWorldProblems is a guitar-laden soulful track incorporating a choir, blatently controversial lyrics and opening up about the struggles of fame. Accompanied by Daniel Caesar’s smooth vocals, it’s a match made in music heaven.
Having hinted at a possible collaborative album together with Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino, it seems as though we can expect a lot of epic music from Chance The Rapper.
Until then let your soul be saturated by #FirstWorldProblems below:
