Our favourite Anglo-Danish trio, Off Bloom have dropped their latest single, Golden Dreams and in a ‘2 for 1’ deal better than Lidl, they have even announced their new EP, Lover Like Me.
Splitting their time between Copenhagen and their current home, London, all three band members – Mette on vocals and Alex and Mads on production– write and produce anthemic, inventive electro-pop overlaid with beautiful melodies. “We don’t want to do something that’s already been done.” Say Off Bloom, who are part of a group of artists and producers including AlunaGeorge, Tove Lo, MØ and Vasco who are pushing boundaries and injecting pop music with a snarling DIY punk spirit.
The new song follows the band’s stream of previous releases including rockefe11a (F*ck That To Be Honest), Shut Up And Let Me Walk and Falcon Eye. The upcoming Ep is include the first two and Golden Dreams.
The new track takes a much more electronic approach to their usual sound but it still feels very much like Off Bloom. From Mette’s vocals to the production value of the track, it sends the listener into a bit of a confused daze where they’re smiling and bobbing their head but still have no clue where the drop and quasi-house vibe came from; it’s brilliant.
The most interesting thing that Golden Dreams shows us is how versatile Off Bloom are, the talent they posses, the influences they have and how there is absolutely no boxing them in. There is a big trend at the moment for artists to be radical and challenge genre bounds and the trio are right at the forefront of that in our pop world.
Talking about the new EP, the trip said that it is about “love, sex, frustration, intoxication and of course loyalty, loyalty, loyalty. It’s a culmination of tracks that came together at very different times of our lives, all representing what we were feeling at the time, but with a similar vibe running through them. When we go into the studio and write a new song it’s all about being honest to the feeling in the room. So when we were feeling frustrated about whatever was going on in our lives at the time, be it a friend who said something dumb, boys/girls etc, that’s when “Shut Up And Let Me Walk” was created.”
They continued saying that “this group of songs represents the last 3-4 months of our lives – our ups and downs, our f*ck-ups and successes, our loves and losses. We had an amazing time creating this EP and got to experience so much, and those experiences shaped the music, for instance working with our musical hero Hudson Mohawke. Really we just want to connect to the people listening to these tracks and hopefully some people will see themselves in them and in us and want to join the bloominati.”
Over the past few months, the band have been hard at work on Lover Like Me, collaborating with some of the most adventurous talents in music, including Hudson, Two Inch Punch and Kid Harpoon, not to mention hitting the road in high profile supporting slots, opening for the likes of Dua Lipa and LANY all across the UK and Europe.
