Wretch 32 Returns Strong On ‘Whistle’ With Donae’o And Kojo Funds

Written by Samee Anibaba

Wretch 32 has been a legend in the Grime and UK Rap game for a long time and his absence in the game for a while has not been unnoticed. Finally, Wretch 32 has returned with his new single Whistle and recruits both old and new artists in the form of Donae’o and Kojo Funds.

This single sees Wretch step outside of his comfort zone a little, taking a break from his usual Top 40 efforts and conscious rap for a much bouncier club beat, ready for the end of Summer and carnival season, as well as being apt for his collaborators to hop on.

No matter what kind of track Wretch makes, his immaculate wordplay and panache for good puns always comes through and this track is no different. Lyrics like “if they’re offside, blow the whistle on ‘em / Black Lives Matter, go nigga on ‘em” and “heart on my sleeve, see the red in it / Army fatigue, I’m a veteran” are only a glimpse into the flows and lyrics Wretch matchmaker in the studio.

The addition of Donae’o and Kojo Funds gives the track a little bit of a dancehall twist and the beat lends itself to their rap/singing vocals which makes it a proper sing-a-long anthem.
