JD Reid Drops New Mixtape ‘Calibrate’ With Features From Novelist & Kojey Radical

Written by Edward Burrell

London Based producer, JD Reid, has been in the game for a very long time now; making beats and instrumentals that span from electro R&B to Grime and some serious Dubstep vibes. On this newest effort, he has linked up with MCs like Novelist, Kojey Radical and 808INK.

Although Reid’s most common music wouldn’t be described as Grime, this isn’t his first foray into the genre, with Röshi with D Double E still making the rounds.

After using this track to test out some new speakers, we can confidently say that the baseline is absolutely dirty and if you’re into that, this will be absolutely perfect. The melody of the track is different to describe, yet the flows Novelist is able to find over the top are inspiring. It does sound like something you would hear in the dubstep genre, although the BPM is closer to that of grime which is what gives the track so much energy alongside Novelist’s vocals.

Novelist has been a consistent MC for a few years now, even after forming Tugg Set and has plenty of bars in his lyrical arsenal too. Although he has some of his trademark reload bars in there, there are some new punchlines for you to sink your teeth into. The hook is what makes this a sing-a-long grime anthem, playing around the title in a way that you just won’t be able to get out of your head.

Other stand out tracks from the EP include the more R&B sounding Breathe with Kojey Radical.
