The BBC have confirmed that Skepta will be performing on the Christmas edition of Britain’s favourite music special (sorry Jools), Top Of The Pops. This means that Skepta’s face will be broadcast to millions of television sets across the country whilst your aunt is drunk and somebody’s grandad has fallen asleep, it is perfect.
Skepta will be joined by Clean Bandit, Craig David and Olly Murs on a show which is set to give us the best music that we have seen in 2016. Skepta has been the driving force in 2016 which will forever be considered the year of Grime, especially after Skepta was able to secure The Mercury Prize for his album, Konnichiwa.
2016 has been an interesting year in many aspects from politics to films and music. The deaths of Bowie and Prince shook the music world massively as did Donald Trump’s win and Brexit. However, it is nice to be able to say that on the music front, we have had more success this year than turmoil. Grime took the limelight alongside the success of Drake, Beyoncé and Kanye’s The Life of Pablo.
Skepta’s inclusion in this iconic show is more about the scene and the graft than it is Skepta’s individual music; however the love shown around this year from MC and MC is commendable and it’s the only thing that will ensure the scene continues to grow in the UK and across the pond.
